There will be distance markers throughout the race to help you keep track of your progress.
There will be four water stations throughout the course. Approximately half a mile from each station there will be large bins for you to throw away your empty bottles. Please do not drop your litter on the course. This is of paramount importance, particularly through the city centre in the run’s early stages.
Yes and we highly recommend it! The Great Cumbrian Run is a brilliant way for local and national charities to raise some much needed funds. Our chosen charities are Eden Valley Hospice and Macmillan Cancer Support. When you register you will be asked if you would like to receive information from either of these charities.
Your “Winning Time” chip, along with late entry numbers, must be collected from The Sands Centre from 2pm until 7pm on Saturday 4th October and from 7am until 9.30am, from Carlisle Castle, on race day. Please note that you will need to bring your confirmation email with you in order to collect your chip and race number.
You must be at least 17 years of age to enter the Great Cumbrian Run. However anyone under the age of 17 can enter the fun run (3 miles) or the Great Cumbrian Run Relay Race with 3 others.
You can run in a team of 4 or a team of 2 as part of our relay race over the 13.1 mile. The relay race is ideal to complete with friends and family or as part of a company challenge with work colleagues. For more information please see the Race Information section of the website.
As the race is on roads through the busy centre of Carlisle and outlying areas and we are only able to redirect traffic for a finite length of time, the maximum time for completion is 3 hours 15 minutes. The first aid sweeper mini bus will follow the route at 3 hours 15 minute pace, picking up runners and ensuring there are no injured competitors requiring attention. The race will officially conclude at 13:15 at the Sheepmount Stadium.
At the end of the race you will receive a goodie bag with your medal, a t-shirt and snack.
The course is a road race on tarmac. The vast majority of the course is reasonably flat with some hilly areas at the outskirts of Carlisle.
The race starts at 10am. All runner must be at the start area 30 minutes before the race begins so we advise arriving at least 45 minutes early to pick up your race number, time chip and familarise yourself with any necessary details.
The official race times will be uploaded onto Cumbrianrun.co.uk after the race.
The Red Cross will be on hand to assist with any injuries during the race along with stewards who will be positioned throughout the race. The first aid sweeper mini bus will follow the route at 3hr 15 minute pace, picking up runners and ensuring there are no injured competitors requiring attention.
Yes, showers will be available at The Sheepmount for runners.
Yes – providing spaces are still available you can register on the day within Carlisle Castle. We do however recommend you enter prior to the day to secure your space.
The race will start promptly at 10am on Sunday 5th October from the front of Carlisle Castle. Please make sure that you give yourself plenty of time to get to the castle use the toilets and be ready to listen to the race instructions. Runners are asked to be at the start line 30 minutes before race time. Runners will be asked to wait within a marked area in the Castle Grounds. Give yourself more time if you need to collect your chip.
The course is 13.1 miles in length.

Yes – the course is on roads and is suitable for wheelchair users.
Some lockers will be available at The Sands Centre and The Sheepmount. There are no facilities for leaving your bag at the start of the race.

Yes, this will be outlined on the day during the pre-race briefing.
Our official appointed photographer for the Great Cumbrian Run 2014 is My Bib Number. MyBibNumber.com will have photographers at various locations on the course as well as the finish area and these images will be viewable within 48 hours of the events completion at www.mybibnumber.com. They will offer various print sizes and products including a race certificate complete with your name, chip time and event logo. Please remember to have your race number visible on the top half of your attire so it is easier to locate your images after the race. There will also be photographers on the day taking general shots of the event. Smile for the cameras!
